Paula Abdul tried to put American Idol behind her as she performed a medley of her greatest hits with her return to the small screen. The former pop star hosted VH1 Divas – a showcase of some of the best female pop vocal talent. And Paula, who opened the show by singing and dancing, found time to slip in a dig at her former Idol co-host Simon Cowell.A sign reading Opposites Attract – the title of Paula's 1989 number one hit – featured the pair's faces, scowling at one another. She opened the show by saying: "Good evening, I'm Paula Abdul, and this is NOT American Idol." Paula, 47, controversially quit as a judge on American Idol earlier this year.

At one point in the two-hour show, she donned a blonde wig and danced to Pink's Get The Party Started – as she pretended to be US chat show host, Ellen DeGeneres, who has replaced her on Idol.

Liza Minnelli made a surprise appearance when she was plucked from the audience to go on stage with Paula – who ended up giving her high-heeled shoes to the actress. But the biggest draw of the night came when Stevie Wonder made a surprise appearance – singing All In Love Is Fair alongside Jennifer Hudson.
