Paula Abdul must have passed her time last year, as an ex-American Idol judge, sending out resumes. Adbul fans will be happy to know that the singer/dancer will once again appear as a judge, albeit on a different show. The NY Daily News reports that Abdul has taken the part of lead judge in an upcoming, dance reality TV show, Live to Dance. Abdul was on hand to tell the NY Daily News more about it.
Explaining the format of the show, Abdul says, "It's not a show that we make them do a dance form that they're not comfortable with. We're celebrating their own unique niche. And then we're expanding it from there.
The up'n'coming dance show has an expansive reach as there are no restrictions on age, dance style or solo or group performances. Abdul must have been reminded of her Idol days as she mentions the audition lines wrapping around the block in New York City, where auditions were being held. Similar to American Idol, the show's audition production will visit several cities around the country.
Critics of Abdul have often said it might be more appropriate for her to judge a dancing competition rather than singing competition. The 48 year old, California native has extensive experience in choreography. According to Wikipedia, Abdul dropped out of college after only attending for about 6 months and after being promoted to head choreographer while she was a Lakers Girl in order to focus on her dance career. She went on to choreograph music videos and several blockbuster movies such as Big, Jerry Maguire and The Doors.
Live to Dance will premiere around the same time American Idol is set to premiere, on CBS. Check your local listings for show times in early 2011.
