'American Idol' Christmas Albums: Sounds of the Holidays From Your 'Idol' Favorites

Posted in : Updates

(added few months ago!)

Another year gone and still no Christmas album from Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood, although Clarkson did record and release "I'll Be Home For Christmas" for the season. Still, 2011 will end without a single "American Idol" alum releasing an album of holiday songs, unless one counts the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's latest album, Glad Christmas Tidings, which was released in September. Season 8's runner-up, David Archuleta, was featured on six of the album's 13 tracks. Season 10 finalists Haley Reinhart and Casey Abrams released "Baby, It's Cold Outside," a rendition of the 1936 pop standard, but that single, along with Clarkson's, is one of very few Christmas songs being offered by artists from "Idol" this year.

So, with that in mind, we'll have to resort to a few Christmas pasts to find "American Idol" Christmas albums. Starting with 2010, Season 5 runner-up Katharine McPhee finished the year by releasing Christmas Is The Time... To Say I Love You. And former oil roughneck Michael Sarver (Season 8, tenth place) offered an album of seasonal tunes via iTunes simply entitled Christmas.

In 2009, Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta released what has become the second best-selling holiday album in "American Idol" history, Christmas From The Heart. In 2008, award-winning contemporary Christian singer Mandisa, who finished ninth in Season 5, offered up an 11-track holiday album, It's Christmas, for her second full-length studio collection of tunes. And Mandisa wasn't the only one in the holiday mood that year.

Season 2's Kimberley Locke (third-place) released Christmas.

Season 5's Paris Bennett (fifth place) presented A Royal Christmas.

Also from Season 5, Elliott Yamin (third place) dropped My Kind of Holiday.

In 2004, Season 2 runner-up Clay Aiken released a collection of Christmas songs. To date his album has sold more than three times all other "American Idol" alumni holiday albums combined. Merry Christmas With Love has sold over 1.416 million copies, more than five times the number of albums of his closest "Idol" colleague, David Archuleta (who has sold 246,000 albums to date).

On the lighter side of the holidays, William Hung (the now infamous Season 3 auditioner), who unforgettably performed Ricky Martin's "She Bangs" and became an "American Idol" icon and viral video star, put out a collection of seasonal songs entitled Hung For Christmas.

There are several older alum holiday singles out there, like Kellie Pickler's hit "Santa Baby." They're not difficult to find. There are even quite a few Carrie Underwood Christmas songs on several compilation CDs -- enough to more than likely compose an entire album. And there are several "American Idol" holiday song compilation albums as well. But if you're on the hunt for solo studio albums filled with seasonal music by Pickler, Underwood, Clarkson, or any other of the former contestants, you'll have to wait at least another year.

For those looking for a list of "American Idol" alumni albums released in 2011, you can find albums from the more successful artists -- like Daughtry and Jennifer Hudson -- at "Your 'American Idol' 2011 Albums Christmas Shopping List." Albums released in 2011 from "Idol" alumni that you might have missed can be found at "More 'American Idol' Albums From 2011: Christmas Stocking Stuffers."

Worried about angry contestants? American Idol judge Steven Tyler brings a knife to auditions while J-Lo dons ladylike chic

Posted in : Updates

(added few months ago!)

There are often some awkward moments during American Idol auditions where angry contestants do not take kindly to the judges critiques. So perhaps Aerosmith legend Steven Tyler was just taking the old saying 'forewarned is forearmed' a little too literally when he turned up for the latest season 11 The hunky singer was spotted with a large Leatherman-style penknife strapped onto his bootcut jeans as her arrived for the day's filming in Pasadena, California today.

Worried about angry contestants American Idol judge Steven Tyler brings a knife to auditions while J-Lo dons ladylike chic

Quite what Steven, 63, thought he would need such a large knife for is anyone's guess, but no doubt Simon Cowell will be glad he is not still on the show after seeing these pictures. The Aerosmith star recently took the opportunity to slam his rival judge, who now stars on X Factor USA, and claim that he was small-minded when it came to music. He said: 'Well, it’s not like that other guy who says ‘I hate Country.’'That’s the one thing that turned me off about the show was that Simon passed on this kid and said, "besides which, I hate Country."'Not my cup of tea. If I’m judging music, you don’t judge the genre.'

The star clearly practices what he preaches when it comes to not judging music by genre, as Aerosmith broke musical ground they recorded a version of their 70s hit Walk This Way with Run DMC in 1986.
However there is no danger of Steven getting into any fights with his fellow American Idol arbiters.
He said the show is far better now the show's former favourite has left, and that there is a new-found solidarity among the judging panel. And the vocalist revealed he loves working on the show, and that the megabucks he gets paid comes far behind his wish to help young talent. He said: ''I’m not in this for the money, I’m not in this for the prestige. 'I’m in it to see if I can bring something to this and find some kids, along with J-Lo, and along with Randy.

She was even careful to pull down her skirt as she got out of her vehicle as she arrived at the venue.
Jennifer  may have had a rocky middle of the year due to her split from husband Marc Anthony, but she's come out of it all with a smile and a spring in her step.

Some might say that it has something to do with boy toy Casper Smart, 24 , but if you prefer your analysis of female celebrities without a side order of misogyny, it's fair to say that the 42-year-old , has a lot to be happy about thanks to her own glittering career.

She was recently named the 'world’s greatest musical comeback act' by Accuracast, a digital search agency that analyzed 1 billion online Google searches since 2004. J. Lo beat off Ricky Martin and Mariah Carey for the top spot. New Kids on the Block and Brian Wilson rounded out the U.S. acts. Arguably the jewel in the crown of her manifold empire is her role on the judging panel of the unstoppably successful, American Idol.

When it was announced back in 2010 that the diva was in consideration as a replacement for Ellen DeGeneres, many jeered that Jenny from the Block wouldn't cut it as a judge. They've been proven wrong, and last season's combination of Lopez, Randy Jackson, 55 , and Steven Tyler, 63 , proved to be a hit with viewers even without Simon Cowell, 50. His X Factor USA has been drawing in roughly half the amount of viewers that Idol averaged across their season, they debuted to around 25 million and stayed steady. So it's with some degree of anticipation that yesterday's auditions in Pasadena, California are being viewed, as they signal a kickstart to series 11, which begins on Fox early next year.

There is of course the magical frisson of J-Lo's soap opera life added into the mix, and many fans will look forward to seeing how the superstar appears to be after her tumultuous life changes. They all remember the show-stopping song and dance routine that Lopez and her now estranged husband Anthony left them with at the May finale of the last season. And it isn't too much to wonder, given the public flaunting of her relationship with Smart - who is already getting to know twins Max and Emme, three, - that he may appear with her too.

He is, after all, conveniently her backing dancer. But today, it was J-Lo in business mode as she strode into the auditions flanked by a bodyguard and looking frankly, exquisite. The mother-of-two donned white Milly Hayden Pintuck trousers with a 60s' inspired black sweater and platform shoes with a yellow tie in to her mustard coat, also a look from the decade that swung. She finished the look with a leopard print clutch, which tied in with the retro riviera feel of the ensemble.

AMERICAN IDOL CONTESTANT JAMES DURBIN’S ‘MEMORIES OF A BEAUTIFUL DISASTER’ – LEDGER-ENQUIRER

Posted in : Updates

(added few months ago!)

Still on the fence about purchasing James Durbin’s album, “Memories of a Beautiful Disaster”? Read this. I finally got around to listening to my review copy of the disc, a task postponed by a deluge of unexpected assignments last week.

Quick background: My opinion of James fluctuated throughout his “American Idol” run. My biggest concern? I wasn’t quite sure where he’d fit in the current radio landscape. Yes, his pleas for us to “give metal a chance” were reassuring…but as my boyfriend likes to note, America already gave metal a chance. That didn’t work out too well.

But after interviewing James when the “Idol” tour stopped in Atlanta, I got more invested in his possible future career. He seems like someone who genuinely wants “Idol” fans to broaden their musical horizons…the question is how that desire will translate to a recording career.

Now, my thoughts on “Memories of a Beautiful Disaster.”I liked it. Going into the disc, my biggest concern was The Scream. It was a bit too extreme at times for me on “Idol,” and I agree that the “different kind of scream” noted in this USA Today piece works well on the disc.

Not all tracks fit into the traditional definition of heavy metal, and I can see some of the tracks (namely “Right Behind You,” my favorite) finding a home amid more pop/rock stuff. That’s not a bad thing.

“May,” a ballad, could be the album’s most polarizing song. I actually enjoyed the song…which surprised me, because I was lukewarm on some of the slower stuff James sang on “Idol.”My favorite tracks: “Higher Than Heaven,” “Right Behind You” and “Screaming.”

“Memories of a Beautiful Disaster” isn’t a full-fledged heavy metal disc, but James didn’t depart from his “thing.” When I turned on the disc at work — with headphones, mind you — my co-workers overheard the loud opening notes and looked at me as if I was going to a headbangers ball. It’s a good start: an album that, like all musical genres, at least deserves a chance.

Sarah Palin is on a mission to ensure that we never forget about her and her family. The former vice presidential candidate is trying to develop a reality series centered around her husband Todd and his career in the world of snowmobile racing. Believe it or not, it's not exactly the hottest project out there: both A&E and TLC have passed. The latter network was the former home of the reality series Sarah Palin's Alaska, but I guess they figure that this new idea will palin comparison. Okay, not the best joke ever...I guess you don't really need to force comedy when it comes to a story about a former VP-candidate making a snowmobile reality show. -Zap2it

Although The Killing left us a bit underwhelmed with its season finale, we can't say we're not at least a bit excited for the return of the series in the spring of 2012. One promising feature of the upcoming second season: a guest role for Mad Men recurring player and Desperate Housewives star Mark Moses. Moses will play a new detective, Lt. Carlson, brought on to investigate the murder of Rosie Larsen. The Killing will keep Moses' character on for at least eight episodes. If we (and he) are lucky, maybe we'll be seeing Moses making his rounds to a few more AMC series. A zombie Duck Phillips might be intriguing.

American Idol’s Haley Reinhart Dishes on Her Upcoming Album: Exclusive!

Posted in : Updates

(added few months ago!)

American Idol’s Haley Reinhart Dishes on Her Upcoming Album Exclusive!Out of all the contestants on American Idol’s 10th season, Haley Reinhart’s album is one of the most highly anticipated. After coming in third in the competition, the songstress did little to hide her disappointment but vowed to come back strong.

In an exclusive interview with Wetpaint Entertainment, Haley tells us that not winning has done little to deter her from pursuing the career she’s always dreamed of.

“From day one, I knew I was meant to do this,” she told us at the 4th Annual Holiday Tree Lighting at L.A. LIVE & Opening of L.A. Kings Holiday Ice. “So I have a lot of faith now, that third place or ninth or first, whatever it might be, I'll do everything in my will and power to get to where I want to be and have my music touch people and start touring. It will be amazing.”

Haley, who was signed to Interscope Records shortly after finishing the competition, is now hard at work on her first album. “I'm working my tail off,” she admits. “I like being a part of the writing process, and they're starting to understand that I want to be really hands on with everything. So I'm totally, utterly and completely in the process of making everything. I'm in the studio just about every day with different writers and producers and getting towards the end of the making of the album.  My debut will be out beginning of next year.”

It’s a chance to show fans exactly who she is as an artist, after feeling that the Idol judges were always questioning her musical identity.

“The judges were constantly saying that I don't know who I was, but by the end I think they saw that no matter what I did, I always had like this soul, or whatever, I put into [the performance] that made it my own,” she says. “I like so much different music, but I like to put my own spin on it at the same time.”

Her advice to new Idol hopefuls? “I would say, take all the advice that you can, but don't take all of it,” says Haley. “Listen to everything, but pick and choose and stay true to yourself because you'll make it in the end.”
