American Idol” season 3 champion Fantasia Barrino was admitted to a North Carolina hospital for a drug overdose. It was classified as an attempted suicide, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Fantasia had allegedly been involved in a sex tape scandal with a married mad Hours after reports surfaced, Barrino’s father told the media,  “She’s doing fine.”

Manager Brian Dickens told People“Her injuries are not life-threatening. She was dehydrated and exhausted at the time.” Dickens went on to say the 26-year-old is in “stable” condition and will be released from the hospital soon. The incident is said to be part of an ongoing investigation. It comes after Barrino was alleged to be having an on and off again extra-marital affair with Antwaun Cook.

Last week, Cook’s wife filed court documents alleging that Cook and Barrino started a “covert adulterous affair” about this time last year  and it led to the couple’s divorce. Barrino said he was not responsible for breaking up their marriage.

We're not joking! There is actually a singing competition show in the works right now, which has the same premise as American Idol  just you know, behind bars. The show will be titled Talent Behind Bars and is being developed by Investigation Discovery. The Discovery-branded crime network also has another familiar show in the works, titled Dancing Behind Bars. Yup, that's right, just like Dancing with the Stars, this new prison competition show will feature actual prisoners competing in a dance competition.

‘American Idol’ winner Fantasia Barrino has been accused of making a sex tape with a married man in court papers filed in North Carolina. The RnB singer has been named in the lawsuit between Antwaun Cook and his wife, Paula Cook, who is filing for divorce from her husband of nearly five years. Barrino allegedly met her new beau in T-Mobile and began a “covert adulterous affair.”

Paula Cook has claimed her husband and Barrino have also taped their sexual encounters. “He don’t want you…maybe next time that you get a husband you’ll know how to keep him….That’s why he is here with me,” the New York Daily News quoted Cook as Barrino told her.

Fox TV's "American Idol" has a shortage of judges at the moment, but it's doing fine with would-be contestants. Nearly 50,000 people have turned out in the first four cities where tryouts have been held, according to series producers. Auditions for the singing contest's 10th season started July 15 in Nashville, Tenn.

The crowds of 16,000 in Nashville and 17,000 in East Rutherford, N.J., are among the biggest the show has ever seen — eclipsed only by the 22,000 that auditioned in Washington, D.C., for season four, a show spokeswoman said.

Earlier this year, "American Idol" expanded the pool by lowering the age eligibility a year, from 16 to 15 years old. The maximum age to audition remains 28. Host Ryan Seacrest suggested another reason for the enthusiasm. "I think people are sensing that season 10 is a historic moment, and they all want to take a shot at being the 10th American Idol," Seacrest said at the New Jersey audition earlier this week.

Aerosmith's Joe Perry said he has been in the dark about bandmate Steven Tyler's alleged "American Idol" plans and that he only heard the news when rumors of the singer's new gig hit the Web.

"I found out on the Internet, like the rest of the world," Perry told The Boston Herald. "There was an Aerosmith afterparty at Studio 54 after the [Las] Vegas show  which none of us in the band knew anything about  and he said some stuff there," Perry said. "I mean, this is no small thing."

Perry also revealed that he's under the impression that Tyler has already inked a contract with "Idol." The guitarist said he would have appreciated a heads-up, since the decision has repercussions for the rest of Aerosmith.

In addition to switching up the judges' panel, "American Idol" is making some changes behind the scenes: Nigel Lythgoe, a former "Idol" executive producer, is returning to the Fox hit.

Reps from the show confirmed to USA Today that Lythgoe, who left "Idol" in 2008 to focus on "So You Think You Can Dance" as an executive producer and judge, will be back on "Idol" for the upcoming season. The TV exec has reportedly signed a two-year contract to shape the show alongside creator Simon Fuller and executive producers Cecile Frot-Coutaz and Ken Warwick.

Ellen DeGeneres Leaves American Idol – The comedienne and chat show host Ellen DeGeneres is quitting American Idol after being part of one season on the judging panel. DeGeneres said in a statement that although she loved discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was difficult for her to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings.

However, US reports have tipped that singer-actress Jennifer Lopez is going to take over from DeGeneres. In addition, a replacement has still to be announced for Simon Cowell. Cowell has left the American Idol to start a US version of The X Factor.

Ellen DeGeneres will not be returning for the next season of American Idol. Not to fear, though, Jennifer Lopez is going to jump on board. The Village Voice talks to Spiritualized about its 1997 album "Ladies & Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space."

A gay American Idol reject is suing the makers of the show, saying they advised him to ‘gay it up’ and ‘exploited’ him. Ian Benardo is going after a cool US $300 million (AUS335 million). After his spectacular first audition, the show’s crew invited him back for the live final, where he stole the mic from comedian Dane Cook. His appearances ruined his reputation and have made it difficult for him to find a job, he claims in his lawsuit.

He filed his complaint with the New York State Human Rights Division, alleging that his experience with the show was “permeated with discriminatory intimidation, ridicule, insults and hostile and offensive comments.”

Simon Cowell is exiting American Idol but rumors in Hollywood now circulate about the possibility of the entire panel of judges getting dumped as well. Just as a shakedown happened a few years ago, a new one could very well occur now that there have been reports that Nigel Lythgoe might actually come back to the “Idol” fold as executive producer, after a two-year break.

Claiming that Fox is nearing a deal with Lythgoe, reports of a reboot of the show comes in the heels of Cowell exiting the picture. There are also unconfirmed reports that the show’s producers are also trying to woo people as disparate as Justin Timberlake and Elton John to possibly take on judging chores on the show.
