Fans Not Digging New American Idols, ‘Idol’ Tour Ends Early

Things may be going from bad to worse for the 2010 ‘American Idol’ tour that was supposed to cross the country this summer and fall. The tour promoters weren’t expecting to repeat the success of the 2009 tour, but they were expecting a respectable turnout.
So far, ticket sales have been slow and the crowds have been sparse. 2009 winner Lee DeWyze is not the most charismatic of the list of winners, so he won’t draw people out to the shows on his own. Crystal Bowersox may be the most talented of this group of idols.
So far eight scheduled dates have been canceled. Those expecting to see your favorite performer in Omaha, Kansas City, Winnipeg, Toronto, Buffalo, Cleveland, or Portland, Maine will be out of luck this time around. Promoters have also shuffled other dates so the tour will end Aug. 31 in Indianapolis instead of in Portland in September.
‘American Idol’ appears at a crossroads, the ratings were down this year, and now with Simon Cowell leaving the show there is a big void to fill. Ellen has brought nothing to the show, and the format is just getting a little old. Hardcore fans will always be there for ‘Idol’, but to keep up the ratings, something has to be done to bring the show back to must watch TV.
